When I was a little girl I LOVED playing dress-up. We actually had a dedicated “dress-up bin” that was chock-full of old Halloween costumes, hand-me-downs and all sorts of ethnic garbs and goodies that our grandparents (Marge + George) had collected during their travels and while living abroad in Iran and France. From French berets, smoking jackets and fur collars to traditional Persian over-coats, robes and kamarbands—the outfit pairing possibilities were endless (and we have the home video footage and photos to prove it)!
Even as a thirty-something adult I still get a thrill from the carefree notion of dressing up and mixing random pieces that somehow work to create a fun, eclectic, but unified vibe. And then there are those times when I just look like a hobo (haha).
As you’ll soon discover, I’m a big fan of pattern play—both in fashion and decor—and this outfit is a perfect example of that juxtaposition. Bold stripes paired with an equally audacious watercolor print come together to make a statement that says, “I’m here to get shit done, but have fun and look cool while doing so.” The smokey eyes and tousled hair help, too (wink, wink).

Whether it’s a special occasion or just for fun, here’s to the playfulness of childhood’s past making a comeback in the most daring and fashionable way!
