Have you ever been in a relationship with someone who you genuinely love and care for, but deep down you know it’s ultimately not the right fit? Maybe you write out on paper all the reasons you should stay, while at the same time rationalizing the things that are wrong or not working—your loyalty and commitment acting as rose-colored glasses, shading your true feelings. Eventually, you start agonizing over what to do, longing for a change, but fearing it at the same time. And then one day, when you least expect it, the fog of indecisiveness lifts, allowing you to finally see things clearly and in that moment, you know exactly what you must do.
After a stimulating and fulfilling three-year relationship with the California Medical Association (CMA)—first as the corporate development manager, then as the director of marketing and special events producer—the time has come for me to bid adieu. Making this decision was neither fast, nor easy, but I know in my heart it is the right one for me.
I am so grateful for the experience, the people, the opportunities and the challenges—and the lessons learned from each—and will look back on my time at CMA with great fondness, but I am unbelievably excited for this change and what it means for my future.
What will I do next, you ask? At this point, I have no f-ing clue. Seriously. I had only figured it out up to the point where I gave my notice. For the first time in my life, I don’t have a plan and I’m totally okay with it. Instead of worrying about the uncertainty of the unknown and stressing over what could go wrong, I am giddily delighted by the possibilities and how right this decision feels. It’s weird, but I dig it.
Life is funny. If you pay close enough attention, it leaves little breadcrumbs, guiding you in the direction in which you’re meant to go. And when you start to acknowledge and act on those signs, it’s remarkable how quickly the stars align and things begin falling into place. Call it fate or blind luck, but those serendipitous moments are what push us forward, beyond our comfort zone, and into a space where we can embrace our full potential.
As I enter this next phase of my career, unsure as to exactly how it will take shape, I am doing so with an open heart and optimistic outlook. I welcome the chance to align with another great company in a full-time capacity or perhaps explore a freelance approach where I take on project-based work. No matter the manner of employment, there’s one thing I know for sure: I am bursting with creativity and seeking opportunities that will allow me to use it. Whether it’s writing, branding, marketing, art directing, event producing or styling (fashion, interior and event)—or a combination of all the above—I am looking to move into the realm of lifestyle and human interests (e.g. fashion; health, beauty and fitness; food and beverage; travel and tourism; sports and entertainment, etc.). I am open to suggestions and welcome referrals, too, so if you’re reading this and have ideas, please shoot me an email!
Over the coming weeks, I hope to work on a couple passion projects—the results from which I will of course share here—and you can catch me on the TEAMride podium a few more times per week starting February 20! Lastly, I will be uploading my work experience and qualifications soon, but in the meantime, check out some “sweet talk” from clients, colleagues, vendors and employers and read what they have to say about my work style.
Thank you for sending positive vibes and for keeping me in mind if you see or hear of anything that might be a fit!
