Have you ever run naked down the middle of your street, either because someone dared you to or just for the hell of it? Or gone skinny dipping after curfew? I’ve only done the latter (not since I was a teenager), but remember feeling so liberated and free.
Throwing such caution to the wind is a notion that seems to fade as we age, not because our bodies are less taught than their former 16-year old versions, but rather that the responsibilities of being an adult take over and the idea of partaking in silly adolescent antics slowly wafts away. Well, to hell with the fun-sucking trap that is “adulting.”
For me, it’s not about turning back time or reliving the past; it’s about infusing a little more youthful lightheartedness into my present and hopefully my future. And so, as a slightly more sophisticated nod to my skinny dipping days past, I dared to bare and rocked a thong bikini on my vacation.
Is my ass perfectly round and dimple-free? Ha! Not since I was 12. But at nearly 33 (my birthday is August 24th!) it’s still somewhat perky, so I figured why the hell not. When in Rome, right?! Or in this case Mexico. Plus, everyone knows that little imperfections seem less noticeable when they’re camouflaged by a nice bronze glow (wink, wink).
Bare-bummed I laid for the last two days of my trip and I have to say, it was quite invigorating. Unfortunately (or fortunately—depends on how you look at it) I didn’t get any shots of my thirty-something backside, so you’ll just have to use your imagination. Or you can head over to the Victoria’s Secret website to see how it looks on the model. We’re practically twins, so my bum looks about the same (ha!).
Another fun fact about this suit is that the top is actually a sports bra from Target! I’m all about that balance between sporty and sexy. I guess you could say I was channeling my high school freshmen self when I played the role of Sporty Spice alongside Scary Spice (my older sister) and the rest of the Spice Girls (my sister’s friends) in our lip syncing rendition of “Wannabe” during the annual El Dorado High School Air Band competition. It was 1998 and our performance was riveting. Random, I know, but funny how things come full circle (in fashion and in life).

hat // San Diego Hat Company from Nordstrom Rack
Inquiring minds want to know—would you ever dare to bare as an adult?
